Pausing Scans

Follow the procedure below to pause a running scan (vulnerability scan or compliance scan only). When a pause or resume is requested for a task using a scanner appliance, the request is communicated to the scanner appliance using its polling feature. For this reason, there must be at least one polling interval before the pause or resume request starts.

Managers are allowed to pause any running scan, regardless of which user launched or scheduled the scan. Unit Managers are allowed to pause their own scans as well as scans launched by other users in their business unit. Scanners are only allowed to pause their own scans.

To pause a scan:

1.    Select ico_scan.jpg Scan from the left menu.

2.    Identify a running scan you want to pause and click ico_pause.jpg. To pause multiple scans, select the check box next to each scan you want to pause, select Pause from the Actions menu, and then click Apply.

  1. When prompted, click Pause to confirm the action.

The scan enters a temporary "Pausing" state while processing the request and then changes to "Paused" state. When a scan is paused, partial scan results are saved on the scans list and a scan complete email notification is generated. Partial scan results can be viewed but cannot be deleted until the scan task is fully completed.

To resume a paused scan:

1.    Select ico_scan.jpg Scan from the left menu.

2.    Identify a paused scan you want to resume and click ico_resume.jpg. To resume multiple scans, select the check box next to each scan you want to resume, and select Resume from the Actions menu, and then click Apply.

  1. When prompted, click Resume to confirm the action.

The scan enters a temporary "Resuming" state while processing the request and then changes to "Running" state. The scan task will pick up where it left off and a scan will be launched on the target hosts not already scanned, using the same options specified when the scan task was originally launched. When the scan task completes, results are combined into one report. If a paused scan is not resumed and completed within 30 days from the initial launch date, then it will be canceled automatically. Note that if you resume a scan and then pause it again, the initial 30 day window still applies.
