Scanner Appliance Selection for Maps

Note: This section applies to Scanner Appliance users only.

Select a scanner to apply to the task: Default, External or a scanner appliance in your account.

When scanner appliances are used, the polling frequency as defined for each scanner appliance has an effect on the latency between the time when you launch a map and the time when you receive the completed map report. Select any scanner appliance and click View to see more information.

Default

Select Default to use the default scanner assigned to each asset group in the target. When the target includes multiple asset groups, the task is distributed automatically to the various scanners (scanner appliances and/or external scanners). You can assign a default scanner to an asset group by editing the asset group configuration.

External

Select External to perform network discovery on your perimeter. External scanners must be able to access your target IPs. A list of IP addresses for the service's External scanners is available on the About page (Help > About) under General Information.

External scanners are used automatically when individual domains are included in the target. If those domains include private use internal IPs, you must select an option other than "Default" or "External" since you cannot map a domain with private use internal IPs using external scanners.

Scanner Appliance in your account

Select a scanner appliance in your account. The selected scanner will be used to map all targets in the task, including asset groups and individual domains. Note that it's best practice to use default scanners when mapping asset groups. For this reason, you may want to create separate tasks for mapping asset groups and individual domains.
