Note: This report is only available when the compliance module is enabled for your subscription and you have compliance management privileges.
The Authentication Report identifies the authentication status (Passed, Failed or Passed with insufficient privileges) for each compliance scanned host. If the scanning engine was able to successfully authenticate to a host, then the status Passed appears. If the scanning engine was not able to authenticate to a host, then the status Failed appears. If the scanning engine was able to authenticate to a host but there were insufficient privileges to perform posture evaluation, then the status Passed* appears.
Successful authentication is a requirement for compliance scanning. Read Authentication to Hosts for more information.
The Summary section shows the total number of hosts that Passed authentication for each asset group or business unit included in the report target.
For example, if your report shows "4 of 6 66%" for a particular asset group, then 6 hosts in the asset group were successfully scanned. Out of the 6 hosts scanned, the scanning engine was able to authenticate to 4 hosts. This means that the scanning engine authenticated to 66% of the scanned hosts for the group.
The Results section lists all successfully scanned hosts from each asset group or business unit included in the report target. For each scanned host, the report identifies whether authentication to the host passed or failed. If authentication failed, then the credentials used in the authentication attempt appear in the Cause column so that you can troubleshoot the issue.
Results are organized by asset group/business unit and then by authentication type. Note that the same host may be listed for multiple authentication types.
The following information appears for each host.
column |
Description |
Host |
The IP address for the host. The IP address may be followed by the registered DNS hostname and the Microsoft Windows NetBIOS name, if available. |
Instance |
If the compliance information applies to a technology version on the host, like an Oracle version, instance information appears in this format: Port <number>, SID <value>. For example: Port 1521, SID ora010203p. |
Status |
The authentication status. Passed indicates that authentication to the host was successful and posture evaluation could be performed. Failed indicates that authentication to the host was not successful. No posture evaluation could be performed on the host. Refer to the Cause column for additional information. Passed* indicates that authentication to the host was successful but the login account had insufficient privileges. No posture evaluation could be performed on the host. Make sure the user account provided in the authentication record meets the minimum account requirements. Read Authentication to Hosts for more information. |
Cause |
For hosts with a Failed or Passed* status, the login ID used during the authentication attempt is shown. Review the authentication record for the host/type and the account privileges to troubleshoot the issue. |
