Creating SNMP Records

SNMP authentication records contain a list of target hosts that the scanning engine should authenticate to using SNMP community strings (SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c) or using SNMP authentication and encryption credentials (SNMPv3). See SNMP Authentication Setup for more information.

The privilege to create authentication records is granted to all Managers automatically. Managers may grant Unit Managers the privilege to create authentication records for hosts in their business unit. This option is set when creating or editing a Unit Manager's account.

To create an SNMP record:

1.    Select Authentication Records from the left menu, under Tools.

2.    Go to New > SNMP Record.

3.    In the Title field, enter a descriptive name for this record.

4.    On the Login Credentials tab, select the SNMP protocol version for the target hosts you want to authenticate to. Your options are v1, v2c and v3. Then provide login credentials. For SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c, you may enter one or more SNMP community strings. For SNMPv3, you may provide authentication and encryption credentials, as well as information related to security settings configured on target hosts. See Login Credentials for more information.

5.    On the IPs tab, select all hosts that the scanning engine should authenticate to using the login credentials provided. Each IP may be included in one SNMP record.

6.    In the Comments field, enter notes about the target hosts or authentication credentials.

7.    Click Save.

Next Step

After creating an SNMP record, you must enable this feature in your scan options for vulnerability scans. Create or edit an option profile and select the SNMP option under Authentication on the Scan tab. Then apply that profile to vulnerability scan tasks.

Note that SNMP authentication is automatically enabled in compliance profiles for compliance scan tasks.
