Create MS SQL Server authentication records for the MS SQL Server database instances that will be targets for your compliance scans. Note that you cannot apply MS SQL Server records to vulnerability scans at this time.
The privilege to create authentication records is granted to all Managers automatically. Managers may grant Unit Managers the privilege to create authentication records for hosts in their business unit. This option is set when creating or editing a Unit Manager's account.
1. Select Authentication Records from the left menu, under Tools.
2. Go to New > MS SQL Record.
3. In the Title field, enter a descriptive name for this record.
4. Select an authentication type:
• Windows. Select for a Windows operating system account that is associated with a MS SQL Server database account.
• Database. Select for a MS SQL Server database account.
5. Specify the user name and password for the account to be used for authentication. When the Windows authentication type is selected, you must enter the domain name where the Windows operating system account is stored. The domain name is required as input since the scanning engine must associate the operating system account with the MS SQL Server database account for authentication.
6. Under Database Information, specify the MS SQL Server instance name (default is "MSSQLSERVER"), database name (default is "master") and port.
7. On the IPs tab, select all hosts that the scanning engine should log into with the specified credentials. The same IP may be included in multiple MS SQL Server records. Each combination of IP, port, database instance name and database name must be unique.
8. In the Comments field, enter notes about the record.
9. Click Save.
After the authentication record is saved, MS SQL Server authentication is enabled automatically for compliance scans.
